Inside Hydrogem - GEM #124

The standard GEM has raised forward bunks. On Hydrogem all bunks are the one level, resulting in more internal volume. As you can see in the pictures Hydrogem provides roomy, if Spartan, accommodation.

It does not boast a galley but prefers to maximise the usable area. Many GEM owners do have fixed stoves and sinks but in the end it is personal preference. I would definitely not recommend having a stove operating while the boat is underway. If I really want to have a brew I'll wind up the keel and nose the boat onto the beach - the great advantage of the trailer sailer. I have camping equipment on board that more than adequately suits my needs when cruising.

Comfort is important when you are cruising or using the boat for sleeping accommodation for extended periods. Many TS only have bunks the width of standard seats. Hydrogem has significantly wider bunks. Okay, it is not the Hyatt, but remember this is an 18ft TS!

I have found that when you are cruising the inside of the boat is generally only used for storage and sleeping. Cooking and other activities are conducted in the cockpit or on the beach.

I doubt if you could find another 18 footer with the performance and accommodation/internal volume of the GEM.
