Gem
140 - Gemini was recently purchased by Stephen Leicester and has
been proved to be very competitive. Imagem (Graeme Wykes), Gem Fever
(Trevor Hippisley), Dodgem (Don Shortridge), Vegemite (Nick Hildyard)
and Hydrogem (Leigh Nielsen) completed the field.
Saturday
presented 15-20 knots of wind with a reasonable swell. It looked,
and was, much more exciting sailing than that on Lake Burley-Griffen!
Sunday the weather moderated but still presented interesting sailing
conditions.
The
standout boat was Imagem! In Saturday's challenging conditions Imagem
left the field in its wake. Despite some challenges Imagem always
seemed to have control of the races. On all legs of the course it
looked fast and competently sailed. This combined with sound race
3 and 4 results saw Imagem win the Gem Division. Congratulations
Graeme and crew. You have set yourselves a high standard to maintain!
As
for the minor placings these were filled by Dodgem and Gemini.
Saturday
was the outstanding sailing day. Surfing down waves was a real hoot
for all participants. Hydrogem clocking over 10 knots at one point.
Hydrogem
also provided some outstanding entertainment with something of a
broach-a-thon!
If
you have a Gem, do yourself a favour and pencil in the 2004 Eden
Regatta!
